The development of the Diploma in Engineering
is led by the Engineering Diploma Development Partnership made up
of six Sector Skills Councils: Semta (the lead), Automotive Skills, Cogent, Energy and Utility Skills,
GoSkills and SummitSkills.
Sector Skills Councils are employer-led,
independent organisations which oversee the skills development of
different business sectors.
The partnership has worked with employers,
universities, schools, colleges and awarding bodies to outline the
content of the Diploma, with responsibility for its accreditation
lying with the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority.
The partnership manages overall work on the
Diploma.
A Strategy Group leads the partnership and is
made up primarily of employers, ensuring that Diploma content is
consistent and meets employers’ current requirements. This group
guides a Project Team which in turn works with three other expert
groups, called the Delivery Group, Awarding Body Group, and the
Advanced Diploma Task and Finish Group.
The Project Team oversees the detailed
development of the Diploma.
The Delivery Group gives guidance on teaching
and implementation, helping with learning materials and resources,
and continuing professional development of teachers. It also plays
a key role in promoting the Diploma.
The Awarding Body Group develops the final
content, assessment and awarding arrangements of the Diploma.
The Advanced Diploma Task and Finish Group is
guided by universities, colleges and professional bodies. It
ensures that the Advanced Diploma provides learners with the skills
and knowledge to successfully progress into, through and beyond
higher education, as well as into work.
The partnership and its work is funded by the
Department for Children, Schools and
Families.
