First cohort of Advanced Diploma students pass

Semta is delighted to offer congratulations to the students who have recently obtained their Advanced Diploma in Engineering today. This innovative qualification will enable them to progress towards Undergraduate Study or Employment, with the confidence that they have the underpinning skills, knowledge and understanding, to master the academic demands of the next level.’

Statistics released after the first cohort of students complete the diplomas have revealed engineering proved the most popular subject out of the first five new advanced diploma qualifications.

Out of 594 teenagers that completed the two year courses for the first time this year, 146 studied engineering, making it the most popular course.

Schools Minister Nick Gibb said:

"There will be a place for the Diploma as long as there is demand for it.  It is for schools, colleges and students to decide whether it is the best qualification for them. That’s why we have made it easier for schools and colleges to choose the Diplomas they think are right for their students, rather than having to offer them in every subject.  We want to strengthen vocational education so we will look carefully at how these qualifications are viewed by employers and universities.”
