Two new publications aim to help employers in the Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) sectors to work
successfully with young people in schools. One is A Quick
Guide for STEM Work Experience Placements, and provides guidance
for everyone involved in STEM work experience, from employers to
teachers and students. Of particular interest to employers
are the sections on health and safety, and providing interesting
placements which inspire students. The second publication,
Discovering talent, developing skills, contains a ‘routemap’ to
guide employers through the various activities you can undertake –
from supporting STEM Ambassadors to providing speakers at careers
events, or even helping develop the curriculum. Both
publications are packed with practical tips and case studies, as
well as useful contacts for employers wishing to get involved. They
are both available at http://www.employers-guide.org/
which has even more ideas on how to get involved.

Semta View There has
never been a better time to work with schools and young people to
boost interest in STEM subjects. Employers can have a really
positive impact on the experience of both young people and teachers
through activities and support. By showing the practical
application of these subjects, employers help bring them to
life. There are many organisations who can help you make
contact, why not speak to your local STEMpoint today?
