A Newham school is to pilot a scheme which will send pupils to
China
to learn Mandarin as part of an engineering diploma.
The course will aim to make pupils more attractive to employers
by learning about Chinese culture. The diploma will start in
September at specialist language college Kingsford Community
School.
Jill Shepherd, the founding director of Bamboo Learning, which
is developing the programme, said: “If you ask business leaders, Is
Mandarin important?', what they say is: Yes, of course but what is
really important above all is to have someone who understands the
culture of the country.”
