Diploma Specification
An employer guide gives an
outline of the proposed content for the Diploma.
Diploma curriculum guidance published on the
QCA website in autumn
2007 includes guidance on the curriculum for the Diploma in
Engineering. QCA published an updated specification document
in late 2006 which gave detailed proposals for qualification
content and structure. The diploma content specification for
the Engineering Diploma was submitted to the government
(SSDA) in June 2006, along with an annex which outlines the
Specialised and Additional learning.
The Engineering Diploma will consist of three areas of learning:
principal, additional/specialist and generic.
Principal learning will develop the knowledge,
understanding, skills and attitudes relevant to a sector or sectors
using realistic contexts and materials as much as
possible.
Additional/specialist learning will allow learners to
specialise further or to select units, which will complement their
programme.
Generic learning will provide the learner with the
essential skills in preparation for successful employment, training
and further study, including maths, English and ICT.
An employer guide
outlines the proposed engineering content for the Diploma. If
you are an employer and like what you see please complete the
endorsement
document to confirm your in principle support for the
Engineering Diploma.
Work experience will also be a key feature of all
Diplomas. Learners must complete a minimum amount of time in
the workplace of ten days across the programme at each level.
We strongly recommend that every Engineering Diploma student
completes work experience in an engineering context, as the work
experience is a key element of the Diploma which presents an
important opportunity for learners to experience engineering in the
real world.
